Working with MSF : Obstetricians / Gynecologists
Responsibilities:
Obstetricians and gynecologists work in maternal and child health programs. They are also involved in hands-on assessment and treatment of women in areas where formal health systems are lacking. Depending on the situation they may be required to carry out surgery, perform needs assessments, or train national staff.
Basic requirements:
- Full and current registration/license with relevant national and professional body
- Minimum 1-2 years post-residency surgery experience (fellowships count towards this requirement)
- Experience in some or all of the following:
- emergency obstetric care
- management of care for survivors of sexual violence
- caesarean sections
- assisted deliveries
- hysterectomies
- management of sexually transmitted infections
- Available for three to nine months
Desirable criteria:
- Diploma in tropical medicine or relevant experience in tropical medicine or isolated areas (including remote parts of Canada)
