Working with MSF : Technical Logistician
Often considered "a jack of all trades", technical logisticians provide daily technical support to all medical project activities. They install, refurbish and maintain basic medical facilities, as well as needed office and lodging structures. Key responsibilities include providing information to the team on water and sanitation (watsan) issues and implementing watsan activities. They maintain transport and plan vehicle movements. They ensure the cold chain for the transportation and storage of vaccinations. Part of their work consists of security-related tasks: installing and maintaining communication equipment, policies and movement control and hiring and managing guards. They are responsible for supply management. Their work also involves the hiring, training and supervising of local staff. They provide briefings, have frequent contact with local authorities and agencies, other MSF sections and non-governmental organizations as required.
Basic Requirements
- Commitment to the aims and values of MSF
- Technical skills in 3 or more of the following:
- Vehicle mechanics
- Energy and electricity
- ICT
- Supply management
- Communications
- Construction
- Water and Sanitation
- Minimum of 2 years professional work experience
- Relevant travel and/or work experience in a developing country or similar environment
- Experience in supervising, training and managing others
- Ability to cope with stress
- Ability to work well as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload, using initiative when appropriate
- Willingness to work in unstable environments
- Valid passport to cover period overseas
- Strong command of the English language
- Available to work for a minimum of 9-12 months
Desirable assets:
- Knowledge in 1 or more of the following languages, particularly French and/or Spanish, Russian or Arabic
- Previous overseas work experience in humanitarian organizations
- Valid and current, clean driving license
