Working with MSF : Obstetrician / Gynecologist


As an Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN) on mission with MSF, you will work in one of our 234 projects with reproductive health activities. In 2008, MSF medical teams provided antenatal care to nearly 600,000 women, assisted in more than 100,000 deliveries, provided prevention of mother-to-child transmission care to over 11,000 HIV-positive mothers, carried out post-rape care for nearly 10,000 survivors of sexual violence and performed surgical repair procedures for 300 women with vaginal fistula.

Basic Requirements :

  • Applicants must have minimum 1-2 years work experience post-residency
  • Commitment to the aims and values of MSF
  • Full and current registration/license
  • Demonstrable experience in supervising, managing and training others
  • Ability to cope with stress
  • Ability to work well as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload, using initiative when appropriate
  • Willingness to work in unstable environments and/or resource limited settings
  • Strong command of the English language
  • Available to work for a minimum of 6-9 months
  • Valid passport to cover period overseas
  • Willingness to take responsibility for health needs of expatriate team
  • Relevant travel and/or work experience in a developing country, or similar environment

Desirable Assets:

  • Fluency in 1 or more of the following languages: French, Spanish, Russian or Arabic
  • Diploma in tropical medicine or relevant experience in tropical medicine or isolated areas (Canadian North)
  • Previous experience in a similar role with another non-governmental organization (NGO)
  • Travel or work experience in indigenous/remote/developing/cross-cultural communities
  • Valid driver’s license
