A MSF project coordinator in Mweso, North Kivu, describes the difficulties Congolese face in getting even the most basic health care.
Day In, Day Out: Delivering Basic Health Care in DRC
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is rich in natural resources that could help provide prosperity and services for its residents. Instead, as various militias battle for control of these resources, violence remains a constant risk for most civilians. They must struggle to get what they need to survive - including a minimum of health care.
Dr. Raghu Venugopal, MSF field doctor reports from Mweso Hospital in North Kivu Province, eastern DRC.

Fighting malnutrition in Galcayo, Somalia

Giving the Right Foods in a Nutrition Crisis
In Turkana, northwestern Kenya, MSF is now able to distribute supplementary nutrient-rich food, which will prevent children from becoming malnourished. Photos were taken during MSF food aid distributions and mobile clinics for severely malnourished children by Francesco Zizola / Noor Images.

Dadaab, Kenya: Crisis on the Outskirts of Ifo Camp
More than a thousand people arrive every day from drought-stricken, war-torn Somalia at the Dadaab camp complex in northeastern Kenya. But the three official camps - Dagahaley, Ifo, and Hagadera - are full, and most of the newly arrived refugees have been forced to settle in the desert outskirts. MSF estimates that there are at least 25,000 people outside the borders of Dagahaley camp and 22,000 outside of Ifo. These families have limited access to water, shelter, food, and hygiene. The medical resources in Dadaab are overwhelmed, but MSF is working to respond to the needs of these refugees on the fringes.
