MSF cannot confirm reports of release of Darfur staff

Sudan | 14 March 2009

10.30am CET, 14 March 2009: Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reasserts today that it cannot confirm reports that our team, abducted on Wednesday, March 11 from Serif Umra, North Darfur, Sudan, has been released.

There are a lot of conflicting reports in the media. The only thing that MSF can confirm is that earlier yesterday evening, on Friday, March 13, we were informed of the possible release of our team.

However, since then we have not seen our colleagues or had contact with them. MSF will only be able to confirm information about a release once we have direct contact with our team ourselves.

Until that time, our thoughts remain with the families of all four of our abducted colleagues. This is obviously an extremely difficult time for them.

MSF remains hopeful of a safe and swift return of our abducted colleagues.

MSF has nothing further to say at this stage.
