MSF worker wounded in Somalia

NEWS | 13 March 2008

A Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) vehicle was attacked yesterday in Somalia at 1 pm local time when several armed men opened fire, seriously wounding a member of the MSF team. The staff member, a security guard, was taken to hospital where he is recovering from a fracture of the femur. Three other employees were slightly injured in the incident.

The car was returning from supervising one of the primary health centres that MSF works in in Balcad, some 20 kilometres north of Mogadishu, when it came under fire. In addition to the vehicle, the armed men also took mobile phones and personal belongings of the passengers, including money.

MSF has been working in Somalia since 1991.
