Press Room

Monday 30 March 2020: MSF opens an accommodation structure with a capacity of 50 beds (which can be extended to 150 beds) for vulnerable people in Brussels.

Bearing witness and speaking out about the humanitarian situation in the places where Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) medical teams work is core to our mandate. The media is a very powerful tool through which we can talk about our work and advocate for change.

Journalists are invited to contact the MSF Press Office for interviews, statements and other media queries.

Information for journalists

We work with Canadian and international media outlets, who cover breaking world news and humanitarian crises in the fastest and most effective way possible. We provide media crews with the latest information before travelling, set up briefings and pre-interviews and put you in direct contact with MSF teams providing emergency care.

The MSF press team can:

Set up interviews. We have spokespeople available in Canada, in operational headquarter offices and in the countries where we support and run medical projects.

Provide B-roll footage. In breaking humanitarian crises, MSF sends camera operators to film the humanitarian needs and what our teams are doing to help.

Facilitate visits to MSF projects. We work in over 70 countries worldwide and have hundreds of projects. We can arrange media visits to film our work and conduct interviews, although this depends on the security situation at the time and the project you are working on.

Share video. We produce short web videos and animations that illustrate our work and the issues that we’re involved in. We are very happy for other websites and social media to use these videos if you credit our work.

Register with our media library to obtain access to select MSF images from countries around the world.

Long description of Doctors Without Borders

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent international humanitarian organization that delivers emergency medical assistance to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics and disasters or exclusion from healthcare in more than 70 countries around the world.

More than 80 per cent of our staff are hired in the countries in which we work. Our teams include doctors, nurses, logisticians, water and sanitation experts, administrators and other professionals. We work with communities and collaborate with local health authorities to help support people’s critical medical needs.

In emergencies and their aftermath, MSF provides essential healthcare, rehabilitates and runs hospitals and clinics, performs surgeries, tackles epidemics, carries out vaccination campaigns, operates feeding centres for malnutrition and offers psychological support.

When needed, MSF teams also constructs wells and dispenses clean drinking water and distribute materials like blankets, plastic sheeting, cooking utensils, hygiene kits and other basic necessities.

Through longer-term programs, MSF treats patients with infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, sleeping sickness and HIV/AIDS and provides medical and psychological care to people or groups who are marginalized.
