80,000 individual donors contributed to MSF in 2008
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, MSF is able to maintain the financial and operational independence that allows us to provide urgent medical care to hundreds of thousands of people affected by conflict, extreme malnutrition and disease in nearly 60 countries around the world each year. In exchange, we are committed to providing high standards of accountability to our donors through updates and information on how we use your donations.
Programs 82%
Direct expenses to our medical humanitarian mission to save lives and alleviate suffering. These costs relate to our operations on the frontlines, including the purchase and shipment of medicines and supplies, recruitment of our teams of international and local staff, and the running of our medical programs. This also includes awareness-raising activities in Canada.
Fundraising 14%
Associated costs of raising and processing private donations that support our projects. MSF’s fundraising activities include communicating with donors by mail, phone, email and street canvassing and reporting on our work through Dispatches, News from the Frontline, and thank you letters.
Administration 4%
Other costs not related to programs or fundraising, including general office expenditures, management and finance salaries, bank fees, professional fees, and common office expenses.

Close to 30,000 individuals who supported MSF by donating monthly through the Partners Without Borders program. These donors provided a third of MSF’s revenue in 2008.
Hundreds of individuals and groups who organized fundraising events for MSF in 2008.
More than 13,000 new donors who began a commitment to MSF’s humanitarian work in 2008.
Companies and workplaces large and small who demonstrated their solidarity with people in need through a financial commitment to the principles and work of MSF in 2008.
The many donors who, in 2008, funded considerable portions of MSF projects around the world. Through their significant support, these individuals and foundations have helped to ensure MSF can make the greatest impact on the most challenging humanitarian crises today.
Hundreds of donors, including Aeroplan and its partners, who donated Aeroplan Miles to MSF to use for international and domestic travel.
