An urgent scale-up of aid is needed in the northern district of Abs, the area worst affected by Yemen’s cholera outbreak, according to international medical organization Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). The disease is spread by contaminated water, so water and sanitation activities are particularly vital to tackle the problem at source, says MSF.

The largest cholera vaccination campaign ever undertaken has just commenced in Zambia’s capital, Lusaka. Over half a million people are expected to receive the oral cholera vaccine in an effort to curb an outbreak that began in February in the city’s overcrowded township areas. As of April 7, a total of 664 cases and 12 deaths had been reported in Lusaka.

Even though the majority of Haitians remain exposed to cholera due to lack of access to clean drinking water and latrines, capacity to treat those affected by the disease is still inadequate.
