Ionara Rabelo, a psychologist from Brazil working with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), is in Ecuador's Manabi province, where a 7.8-magnitude earthquake last month caused widespread destruction and hundreds of deaths. She and her team have been providing training and mental health care to support those affected by the quake.

An earthquake variously recorded at between 7.6 and 8.1 on the Richter scale rocked parts of northeastern Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan on the afternoon of October 26. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) medical projects in north -western Pakistan were faced with an initial influx of seriously wounded in the first hours. After treating the injured, the next priority is to assess the needs and identify if there are any urgent follow-up requirements.

On April 25, 2015, a massive earthquake struck the country of Nepal. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams organized quickly to provide emergency medical assistance to those affected by the quake, and expanded their response following a second earthquake in the country on May 11 . On January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake struck Haiti, killing more than 200,000 people and causing horrific injuries to over 300,000. More than 1.5 million people were left homeless after buildings in the capital Port-au-Prince collapsed or were left unusable.  

One affected building was Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF)’s obstetrics hospital, where Canadian physician Wendy Lai worked before and after the earthquake. She tells her story in the video above.
