Ramtha is a Jordanian town near the border with southern Syria, which has seen some of the heaviest fighting in the conflict. The majority of war wounded arriving in Jordan go to the Ramtha Hospital.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has opened a mother and child hospital for Syrian refugees in the northern Jordanian governorate of Irbid. MSF opened the hospital on November 13, in collaboration with the Jordanian Ministry of Health.

Nearly half a million Syrians are now refugees in Jordan, making up a third of the 1.5 million people who have fled the conflict in Syria to neighbouring countries. More than 100,000 of them live in Zaatari camp, situated in the north of the country, less than 20 km from the Syrian border. Up until last month, one thousand refugees arrived daily at the camp, which has become the largest camp for Syrian refugees in the region.

Over the last three months, escalating violence in Syria has caused an unprecedented flow of refugees into neighbouring countries. According to the Jordanian authorities, an estimated number of 400,000 are now living in the country.
