I went back to Rwanda last month for the first time in almost 20 years. I was head of mission for Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) during and after the 1994 Rwandan genocide. The experience changed me completely; my innocence died there.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has been forced to cancel a conference on medical ethics due to take place in Bahrain in April, because of a lack of assurances from authorities, MSF announced today. The conference was to be held in the Bahraini capital, Manama, April 10 and 11.

The international president of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF),  Dr. Unni Karunakara, met yesterday in Geneva with a Bahraini parliamentary delegation that included the Minister of Human Rights, Dr .Salah Bin Ali Abdularahman Dr. Karunakara raised issues related to the need for impartial access to healthcare in Bahrain, and the obligation of medical staff to provide healthcare regardless of patients’ political or sectarian affiliations.
