This past December, Toronto-based jewellery retailer Jenny Bird donated a day’s proceeds of their online sales to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)’s work in Syria. Thanks to their quick decision-making and an overwhelming response from customers, Jenny Bird raised thousands for MSF’s lifesaving work.

This past fall, Karina Zavala, a soccer coach from St John’s, Newfoundland, took to the pitch to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). By hosting a soccer tournament at her local athletic club, Karina brought her community together and in doing so developed a better understanding of the difference she was making at both home and abroad.

Dr. Bruce Lampard, who has worked overseas with MSF eight times since 2001, and his mother Diane McKenzie are longtime supporters, and both recently decided to leave gifts to MSF in their wills. “MSF has had such an impact on my life that the decision was pretty easy,” says Bruce.

Angie Bonvanie, a grade 6 teacher at Halton Hills Christian School in Georgetown, Ontario, strives to educate her students to make a difference and look beyond themselves. Together, they believe that “one person can do something, but together we can do so much more,” she says. Angie and her 11-year-old students watched videos, read articles and discussed the role MSF plays around the world.
