Hundreds of interviews with people rescued at sea by MSF during 2015 and 2016 have exposed the alarming level of violence and exploitation to which refugees, asylum seekers and migrants are subjected in Libya. Many of those we have rescued report having directly experienced violence in the country, while almost all report witnessing extreme violence against refugees and migrants, including beatings, sexual violence and murder.

The Lake Chad region has become an epicentre of violence, with continued attacks by the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) group, also known as Boko Haram. Government military operations in response are also contributing to mass displacement across the region. To date, over 2.5 million people have been made homeless as a result of violence in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is scaling up its medical and humanitarian response in the four countries.

Nearly three weeks after the US bombing of the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) trauma centre in Kunduz, Afghanistan, on October 3, MSF today announces with sadness that the death toll is still rising, with one more MSF staff member confirmed to have been killed.

On April 25, 2015, a massive earthquake struck the country of Nepal. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams organized quickly to provide emergency medical assistance to those affected by the quake, and expanded their response following a second earthquake in the country on May 11 . Anne Kluijtmans, a Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) nurse from Holland, was on holiday in Nepal when a amjor earthquake struck the country on April 25. She quickly joined the MSF teams who had arrived in the country to respond.
