Accountable to you

To maintain our independence and flexibility, MSF relies on the general public for most of its funds.

At all times, MSF directs at least 80% of its revenue to fund its programme activities. A minimum of 80 cents from every dollar is spent supporting field operations, which provide medical assistance to populations in distress around the world, and on bearing witness activities in Canada and overseas.

Emergency relief fund vs. Earmarked funds

MSF encourages donors to provide general support for our activities so that we can direct contributions to where the needs are greatest. Unrestricted donations help us respond to crises when they happen, allowing us to avoid the cost and delay of launching special fundraising appeals. If funds have been designated for a specific project and we cannot use them as intended, we will contact you to discuss what you would like us to do with your gift.

Privacy policy / PCI compliance

MSF is committed to protecting the privacy of our donors and to upholding the highest ethical standards in the way we raise funds.  Personal information will remain confidential and is used for processing gifts, keeping you informed about MSF projects and activities, and to ask for your help in our mission to save lives and alleviate human suffering.

We are committed to ensuring your personal and financial information is secure.  MSF strictly follows the requirements outlined by the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). The PCI DSS is a comprehensive security standard that includes requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical protective measures concerning processing of donations.  For more information, visit www.pcisecuritystandards.org.

We will honour your requests for information, including our most recent financial statements, and any wishes to limit future contact. Our materials will be truthful and will accurately describe our activities and the intended use of the funds we raise, while respecting the dignity and privacy of those who we strive to help.
