We know it takes time and thought to make important decisions about your charitable contributions. You want your gift to have an impact. A planned gift is considered any outright or deferred gift that is made with forethought and consideration of the benefits to MSF and your own financial implications and philanthropic goals. Making the decision to make a planned gift, either outright or deferred, is a personal one that should not be taken without having discussions with your loved ones and your independent professional advisor(s).
MSF supporters often say that they are inspired by our mandate to assist people in need and by the contribution of Canadian aid workers in the field. We, in turn, take inspiration from the commitment and solidarity of our donors who express their support through these meaningful ways of giving:
• Charitable bequests
Making a charitable bequest through your Will is a simple way for you to make a significant impact in the future and help MSF deliver humanitarian relief to people in need.
You can indicate a bequest for a specific amount or percentage of cash, securities or other property to MSF. You can also make your gift from the proceeds remaining once all other legacies and obligations have been paid. If you already have a Will, you can also add a simple codicil specifying your donation.
For more information or to receive sample bequest wording, please fill out the request for information form and a member of our Personal Giving team will get back to you within one business day.
• Charitable gift annuities
Charitable gift annuities provide you with a guaranteed income for life and MSF with an immediate contribution for our medical humanitarian relief work.
A charitable gift annuity is an irrevocable gift that allows you to make a significant donation while still receiving safe, pre-determined income payments. Annuity income enjoys special tax treatment, resulting in higher after-tax income. In some cases, the income is paid out entirely tax-free.
Charitable gift annuities are ideal for donors over age 70 who may require guaranteed income for their living costs. Age is also an advantage when choosing to invest in annuities: the older you are, the higher your annual income will be.
For more information or to receive a personalized annuity quote, please fill out the request for information form and a member of the Personal Giving team will get back to you within one business day.
• Gifts of life insurance
A gift of life insurance allows you to make a sizable future gift that will assist our operations in the field. It also enables you to give a substantial amount without necessarily reducing assets included in your Estate, which may be intended for family, friends, and other beneficiaries.
There are a number of ways to give through life insurance, including donating a policy you already own, donating a policy on which premiums are still owing, purchasing a new policy and transferring ownership to MSF, or by simply naming MSF as primary beneficiary, co-beneficiary, or contingent beneficiary of your current policy.
For more information, please fill out the request for information form and a member of the Personal Giving team will get back to you within one business day.
• Gifts of retirement plans
Donating your RRSPs or RRIFs to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) allows you to maintain financial security while making an impact on our work and the people we help. Your registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) or registered retirement income fund (RRIF) will be used by MSF to respond to health emergencies around the world.
For more information, please fill out the request for information form and a member of the Personal Giving team will get back to you within one business day.
• Gifts of publicly-traded securities
It is recommended that you seek independent professional advice from your lawyer or financial advisor when preparing or considering making a planned gift.

To ensure our independence, MSF’s operations in Pakistan are funded entirely by private donations from donors like you. MSF does not accept any government money for our work in the country, including any matching funds offered through the Canadian government’s Pakistan Floods Relief Fund.
MSF has been in Pakistan for over a decade. The country is among the most dangerous places in the world where MSF works. Over the years, we've negotiated our presence on the basis of independence from all warring parties. For MSF, independence means being able to work wherever necessary, based solely on medical needs. In Pakistan, in order to be able to have access to the population, we must do everything we can to maintain our independence. This includes continuing to not accept institutional funds from, or being associated with, any government in any way, which could affect others' perceptions of our motivations.
