MSF Canada Bios - Board of Directors


 

BRUCE LAMPARD

Vice President 2009-2010, President 2011-2015

Bruce Lampard is an emergency physician working in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Since 2001, he has worked with MSF in South Sudan, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, Central African Republic and Somalia.

 

MARK CRESSWELL

Vice-President 2011-2013

Mark Cresswell joined MSF in 1999 as an anesthetist working in Sri Lanka before returning to London, UK to specialize as a radiologist. During that time he participated in various MSF UK committees and working groups until he was elected member of the Board of MSF UK in 2005, when MSF OCA was formed. He moved to Canada a few years ago, and now lives in Vancouver, BC.

 

FRANK COPPING

Treasurer, 2012-2013

Frank is a Chartered Accountant and has served as the Chief Financial Officer for three well known Ontario charities. Additionally, he has been on the boards of various local, provincial and national charities.

 

MALCOLM BURROWS

Board member 2010-2012, 2012-2013

Malcolm Burrows is head of philantropic advisory services at Scotia Private Client Group. He worked as a fundraiser for health and educational charities for 13 years in Toronto before joining Scotiabank in 2004. He is a well-known writer and speaker on charitable sector issues and a member of the Technical Issues Working Group of the Canada Revenue Agency’s Charities Directorate.

 

CHRIS HOUSTON

Board member 2012-2015

Chris has an educational and professional background in risk management and has been involved in a management capacity with several non-governmental and corporate organizations. Chris has worked with MSF as a logistician in Papua New Guinea, Nigeria and most recently as a project coordinator in Ethiopia.

CHRISTIAN CAPTIER

Board Member, co-opted 2011-2012

Christian Captier has been working in the humanitarian sector for almost 20 years. Starting in 1992 in Sierra Leone, Somalia and then Bosnia-Herzegovina with Action contre la Faim (ACF), he then became head of operations for ACF France until 2002. Christian was a member of ACF’s board of directors from 2002 till 2004. He went on to join MSF as executive director in Switzerland until mid 2011. He holds an MBA from the Grenoble Management School and a master of arts in war studies from King’s College London.

 

JAMES LANE

Board Member, Legal Officer 2009 – 2013

James is a commercial litigation lawyer practicing in Toronto. He has been involved as an MSF volunteer in Canada beginning in 1990 and served as the first General Director when the Toronto office was opened.

 

JOANNIE ROY

Board member, 2012-2013

Joannie Roy is a laboratory scientist with expertise in the biomedical sciences, diagnostics, public health and research. Joannie worked as a laboratory scientist supervisor in Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo and served as a laboratory technical and strategic advisor at MSF in Amsterdam and represented MSF Holland at the International Working Group on Laboratory Diagnostics.

 

HEATHER CULBERT

Board member, 2012-2014

Heather holds a Masters in Epidemiology and is a family physician with experience in a number of rural and northern communities and downtown health clinics in large cities. Before working with MSF, Heather  volunteered in a hospital in Nepal with the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation. Her first mission with MSF was in the DRC. Heather worked as a Medical Advisor for the Manson Unit at the MSF UK Office, implementing TB and HIV programs in Uganda, Zimbabwe and the Central African Republic.

 

LAI-LING LEE

Board member, 2012-2014

Lai-Ling has worked with MSF in 1995 as a Field Administrator in Georgia, Assistant Head of Mission in Indonesia and Head of Mission in the Congo, where she also assisted the closure of the Project. As Head of Programs and government liaison at MSF Canada for 7 years, Lai-Ling has also been on shorter missions with MSF to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Thailand, and Guatemala. Lai-Ling has held several management positions and conducted consultancies over the past twenty years in the Canadian NGO sector, and currently holds an Advisory position at the International Operations Department of the Canadian Red Cross.
